This mini exhibition explores the ‘beasts’ we experience in life and how we choose to escape them. The series of work delves into traumas such as grief, domestic violence, and mechanisms of oppression that impact women. Rachel uses black out or erasure poetry to create poems on an existing page of text and then adds more context with collage, paint, pastels, and markers. This method mimics the layering of emotional wounds, the complexity of trauma, and how difficult it is to unstick ourselves from the past.
